2-Day Basic Sea Kayaking Course
This 2-day Grunnkurs Hav is taught in English and gives you the basic skills you need to paddle safely and confidently in calm sea conditions.
During the course, we spend two full days on sheltered coastal waters, learning how to handle a sea kayak, use different paddle strokes, steer efficiently, plan simple trips and understand basic safety on the water. We will also practice wet exits, self-rescue and buddy rescue.
After completing the course, you will receive the official NPF Våttkort – Grunnkurs Hav from the Norwegian Paddle Association. This certificate is widely recognised in Norway and is often needed to rent kayak equipment, join kayak clubs or continue with more advanced sea kayaking courses.

What to Expect
-
Grunnkurs Hav is a hands-on beginner sea kayaking course designed to give you a solid foundation for paddling safely in calm coastal waters. Over two days, we move between short theory sessions, practical exercises and time on the water.
-
You will learn the essential techniques for efficient sea kayaking and trip planing.
-
A big part of the course is learning how to look after yourself and others on the water. We practice wet exits, self-rescue, buddy rescue and basic safety routines, so you know what to do if something goes wrong.
-
The course is kept small so there is enough time for individual feedback and a relaxed learning atmosphere. This makes it easier to ask questions, repeat exercises and progress at a pace that feels good for you.
-
After completing the course, you receive the official NPF Våttkort Grunnkurs Hav certification. This is the standard Norwegian sea kayaking certificate and is often required for renting kayaks or joining further courses in Norway.
-
Sea kayak, paddle, spraydeck, drysuit, PFD and necessary safety equipment are included. You only need to bring warm layers, food, drinks and a dry change of clothes.
